Preparation of Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunch Hydrolysate
نویسندگان
چکیده
Malaysia is the second largest palm oil producer and exporter globally. When crude produced in both plantations processing mills, a large amount of empty fruit bunch (OPEFB) simultaneously as waste product. Here, we describe preparation hydrolysate from OPEFB. After OPEFB was hydrothermally treated at 180–200 °C, resultant liquid phase subjected to high-performance chromatography analysis, while solid used for acidic enzymatic hydrolysis. Hemicellulose yield acid-treated decreased 153 mg/g-OPEFB 27.5 by increasing hydrothermal treatment temperature 180 200 °C. Glucose enzyme-treated obtained after °C highest (234 ± 1.90 mg/g-OPEFB, 61.7% production efficiency). In contrast, xylose, mannose, galactose, arabinose yields prepared were lowest. Thus, concluded that optimum pretreatment which caused low hemicellulose yield. Based on these results, have established an effective method preparing hydrolysates with high glucose content.

Conversion of Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunch to Biofuels
Crude palm oil production is reaching 48.99 million metric tonnes per year globally in 2011 and Southeast Asia is the main contributor, with Indonesia accounting for 48.79%, Malaysia 36.75%, and Thailand 2.96% (Palm Oil Refiners Association of Malaysia, 2011). Oil palm is a multi-purpose plantation and it is also an intensive producer of biomass. Accompanying the production of one kg of palm oi...
متن کاملEffect of Silica Bodies on the Mechanical Behaviour of Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunch Fibres
The surface of oil palm empty fruit bunch fibres contains embedded silica bodies or protrusions. The mechanical contribution of the protrusions towards the integrity of the fibres is still not clearly investigated. In this work, 2D and 3D finite element simulations on the surface and cross section of the fibres, respectively, were performed. The information for the models was obtained from scan...
متن کاملBasic Properties of Oven–Heat Treated Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunch Stalk Fibers
The fibers of oil palm empty fruit bunch (OPEFB) stalks were investigated to determine the changes in their basic properties after oven-heat treatment. The oven-heat treatment was conducted at 100 °C or 190 °C for 15 min. There were slightly noticeable morphological, chemical, and thermal alterations in oven-heat treated OPEFB stalk fibers for short duration. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) ...
متن کاملMicrostructure Modelling of Silica Bodies from Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunch (OPEFB) Fibres
Investigating the mechanical behaviour of silica bodies in oil palm empty fruit bunches (OPEFB) is important to improve the process of silica body removal. This study will assist in providing an understanding of the role of OPEFB as a bioresource material for the bioconversion process. The microstructure of silica bodies/protrusions on the OPEFB fibre surface was modelled using the finite eleme...
متن کاملFactors Affecting Delignification of Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunch by Microwave-assisted Dilute Acid/Alkali Pretreatment
Microwave-assisted dilute acid/alkali pretreatment is an efficient and rapid method of removing lignin and hemicellulose, however, the optimized parameters for the maximum efficiency have to date not been presented in the literature. The purpose of this study was to determine those conditions by examining the effects of three factors: microwave power, temperature, and time on delignification in...
